Our goals for children in our kindergarten readiness program reinforce what they’re learning in Kindergarten while giving them a chance to practice their new skills! Our teachers are incredibly patient and have years of experience with childhood education and development.

They introduce students to a deep level of critical thinking by asking in-depth questions, teaching them more technical vocabulary, and challenging students to investigate on their own and alongside others.

At World Around Us Child Care, we work with your child to achieve the following goals:

  1. Recognize other & self

  2. Experience basic math and number concepts

  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the alphabet

  4. Demonstrate positive approaches to learning

  5. Use conversational and other communication skills

Our Kindergarten Readiness Curriculum

Here at World Around Us, we use The Creative Curriculum. It includes early literacy and pre-writing skills, letters, numbers, shapes, colors, days of the week, months of the year and much more.

It also includes an assessment component that allows the teachers to monitor your children's growth and his/her strengths and weaknesses. This enables the teachers to be able to tailor the curriculum to your children's needs!

Our curriculum is kindergarten-readiness approved through the Minnesota Head Start Association and NECPA. It includes Spanish, sign language, and music therapy and computer classes.

With this curriculum approach, your child will explore the following through a hands on approach:

  • Morning greetings

  • Social and emotional development

  • Visuals to guide independence

  • Letter of the week

  • Hands on learning in math, literacy, science

  • Contributing to discussions

  • Having interesting experiences and learning to express those experiences

  • Reading or being read to

  • Spanish speaking and sign language skills

  • Growing in knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the aesthetic world. We also help your children to use creative arts as a means to self-expression and forming thoughts by:

  • Using a variety of artistic media.

  • Musical activities, puppetry, and dramatic play

  • Experiencing math and number concepts, such as seeing relationships as part of a whole, making graphs and charts, and working with puzzles and shapes.

Daily Parent Communication

We’re passionate about facilitating full communication between parents and our team of teachers. Two-way communication at this age really supports consistency for your child. In order to do this, we maintain daily sheets for each child which allow us to document information about your child's day and note changes of behavior or diet as they occur.

Nutritious and Healthy Diet

Here at World Around Us Child Care, we always strive to ensure a healthy and balanced diet. Our in-house cook, Linda, prepares and serves two meals a day (breakfast and lunch), as well as afternoon snacks accommodating everyone's needs. We are able to offer substitutions if necessary. We focus on buying high quality products and follow USDA food & nutrition guidelines when it comes to creating the weekly changing menu. View our latest one here!

We encourage children to sample new foods and to at least taste what is being served. However, we allow the child to choose how much or little they want to eat in accordance with USDA recommended portions.

We are more than happy to chat with you about specific requests you might have due to allergies or intolerances, religious or cultural reasons, or special dietary needs.

State-of-the-art Security System

In order to make sure that your child is under constant supervision and to maintain a safe environment, we have installed a state-of-the-art camera security system which keeps track of every move of your child throughout the day in and around our facility. The camera footage is monitored by our staff at the front desk and in the office.
